PhotoFile Cornwall supports CoaST and Sustainable Tourism

About PhotoFile Cornwall

PhotoFile Cornwall is based at Redgate Smithy near St Cleer on the southern edge of Bodmin Moor. Originally, PhotoFile Cornwall supported our B&B business that we operated here at Redgate Smithy for 15 wonderful years, after we chose to give up our busy jobs in engineering and teaching to come down to Cornwall and the place that we loved. It was here that we started up a B&B business, and a new phase of our lives, and it is here that we have now retired from providing B&B, and have started yet another new phase of our lives. We would like to thank all those guests who stayed with us, and who helped support our business over those years, many of whom have now become our friends, and who made our business such a success.

Redgate Smithy itself is situated on the edge of Bodmin Moor, just above Golitha Falls, in the heart of SE Cornwall. Just as it has been for our guests, and now it is for us (now we have a little more time!), we are perfectly located for exploring Cornwall north, south, east or west. Golitha Falls are just down the lane opposite from us, and they remain a beautiful yet mysterious place to explore; peaceful and tranquil, yet beautiful and foreboding all at once. As we have often said, a King of Cornwall died here. Miners have toiled here. Legend lingers.

The PhotoFile Cornwall website will continue to provide photos and information about many of the wonderful places that can be found here in Cornwall, particularly in this area of South East Cornwall and Bodmin Moor, and all photographs are available to purchase. With more time now to update and publish new pages using photographs from other locations held in my photo library, and from new locations visited, these will be added in due course.

All photographs have been taken on digital cameras (except an odd few where noted), and as a point of interest, I have given at the top of each page the year or years during which the images were taken. They begin in 2004 with my first fairly basic Olympus compact digital camera, bought to create photos for our, then, new B&B business website; being not long after the advent of popular digital photography. They move forward through 2015 when newly published pages paused, and will now continue on from then through to the present day. Since 2006, I have been using a series of Panasonic Lumix Bridge Cameras, and I currently use a Panasonic Lumix DC-FZ82 with an impressive 60x (20 to 1200 equivalent) optical zoom. It is a suitably chunky decently sized camera, feels good in the hand, and 4K capable. Without spending millions on high-end digital mirrored SLR's I would recommend it.

Along with other information of interest, there are also a number of books based on and around Bodmin Moor that are available to purchase (good prices and prompt delivery!), and a number of useful leaflets are available for free download. Enjoy visiting the website, and please do “Like” us on Facebook!
