Mevagissey is a working fishing harbour, and is in some sense a larger version of Polperro. Fishing is the main activity here, and many boats are available for hire, to take you out to try your luck.
Mevagissey should be pronounced "MevaGIZZee", and is Lannvorek in Cornish. It was originally called Porthhilly (meaning a "saltwater cove"), but was renamed in around 1313 when it combined with the nearby hamlet of Lamoreck. The town now is now named after the two Saints, St.Meva and St.Issey.
A regular passenger ferry runs daily between Mevagissey and Fowey, enabling day trips either way.
