"An Introduction to Bodmin Moor"
written by Mark Camp

"You do not have to go far to find treasures on Bodmin Moor. Everywhere you look there are prehistoric remains; moorland streams tumble over granite boulders and under medieval bridges, gaunt engine houses, abandoned by Victorian miners, stand sentinel over the moor's edge. Heather and gorse paint the moorland purple and gold respectively." So writes Mark in his introduction to this excellent book. This is not a walking guide - though all the sites featured have Ordnance Survey grid references, and are also shown on a map in the book - and the idea is to go out and enjoy the moor, and search out the places featured for yourself.

Download Booklet "Bodmin Moor - 400 million years in the making""Bodmin Moor - 400 million years in the making"
Written by John Macadam

This free booklet is an excellent introduction to Bodmin Moor, with its rich landscape heritage, its geology, natural history and wildlife; together with its Neolithic settlements and its more recent industrial Cornish Mining heritage - indeed, the Caradon and Minions area is now a World Heritage Site. Bodmin Moor is a fragile area that needs looking after, and it is still very much a working environment, where the welfare of livestock and land both need full consideration when exploring it. This short guide will give you an appreciation of this beautiful landscape. It is available in English  French  German  Spanish and Dutch

"The Copper Trail"
Written by Mark Camp

The Copper Trail is a new 60 mile circumnavigation around the whole of Bodmin Moor, and with its varied and dramatic scenery, is Cornwall's answer to the Pennine Way! The book contains detailed information on the route itself, and there is also a wealth of additional local and historical information along the way. The route's attractions include some of Cornwall's finest scenery, natural features such as Golitha Falls, plus many pretty moorland villages and ancient archaeological sites. The name "Copper Trail" came about because of the great number of abandoned copper mines passed along the route.

"The Smugglers' Way"
written by Frank Squibb

This is an excellent 37 mile walk that traverses the very centre of the moor, and explores the heights of Rough Tor and Brown Willy. The Smugglers' Way is a Cornish "Coast to Coast" route from Boscastle to Looe, that can be followed in either direction, and in Frank's words, "The route links two harbours renowned for their smuggling connections... I'd discovered a rich tapestry of Cornwall's finest scenery - sun-dappled stretches beside tranquil rivers, the lonely heights of Bodmin Moor, ancient bridges, sleepy hamlets and quiet bylanes."
For further information about this excellent walk, see the Smugglers Way website.
